Virtual Desktop Engineer Senior

Burlington, WA

The Virtual Desktop Engineer Senior is responsible for automating, developing, supporting, and optimizing key technology critical to the success of VDI/Remote Access, as it relates to infrastructure, workstation operating systems, critical business applications, and the overall ownership of the end user experience.

Preferred geographical location is Burlington, WA. Depending on experience Tacoma or Lynnwood, WA may be considered.

The successful candidate will be able to:    

  • Provide technical leadership in the planning and execution of the remote access and virtual desktop application strategy, infrastructure and deployment.

  • Work in partnership with cross-functional teams and vendors to design, install and configure solutions for business and enterprise infrastructure needs.
  • Develop virtualization road maps defining improvements/enhancements and ensuring offerings meet project and business objectives. 
  • Track and document system changes, in accordance with business requirements; develops, writes, updates and maintains system controls and desk procedures.
  • Provide technical mentorship to peers and coaching to less experienced team members.
  • Develop and maintain resource pools, user entitlements, and application policies.
  • Maintain and support components of the desktop environment including virtual desktop infrastructure and Windows operating systems.
  • Plan, install, configure, maintain, and repair virtual desktop infrastructure and related applications. Build, update and deploy VDI desktop images.
  • Manage all virtual desktop systems and devices to maintain security and patch compliance. 
  • Research, resolve, and remediate security risks as identified by the Information Security Team; proactively monitors for compliance and security.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of, and ensures bank activities are performed in compliance with, all state and federal banking laws and regulations applicable to areas of responsibility. 
  • Oversee the management of end point group policy design and maintenance.
  • Oversee the review of Windows security and 3rd party patch management and application deployment processes - physical and virtual environments.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continued education, educational workshops, professional publications, and networking within the profession.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, or related field – required.
  • 5 years recent experience maintaining a VMware desktop environment leading projects for virtual solutions, which includes extensive experience with VMware Horizon, WorkspaceONE, App Volumes, Identity Manager, UEM, Thin Apps, App Stacks, which includes a minimum of 3 years’ experience managing and supporting Windows desktops – required.
  • VMware Desktop Certified VCP (VMware Certified Professional), VCAP Deployment (VMware Certified Advanced Professional) required.
  • Equivalent combination of education, certifications, and training may be considered.
  • Provides an exceptional level of service and comprehensive support to internal customers, with the ability to build and maintain positive, professional relationships, to successfully interact with all levels of management and functional areas across the organization.
  • Excellent communication/ interpersonal skills combined with ability to communicate effectively, clearly and persuasively in a variety of settings, formats, and audiences across business lines at all levels; with the ability to read, write, speak and understand English well.
  • Strong research, time management, and organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet concurrent deadlines.
  • Strong technical, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning skills to understand and transform user requirements to a virtual environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management, which includes strong collaboration and mentoring skills to effectively lead project teams.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge/experience using Change Control processes.
  • Extensive experience developing and implementing cross-organizational business process flows, creating test plans and scripts to document complex business processes.

  • Knowledge of asset management processes and endpoint life cycle process management.

  • Thoroughly understands and applies principles, operating procedures, regulatory requirements, and policies related to assigned area, and strong working knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s policies and procedures.

  • Unquestionable integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information required.

  • Proficient experience in Enterprise applications of Windows, O365, KACE, Adobe, HP Device Manager; Group Policy, practical knowledge of Active Directory, DHCP, Subnets, Routing and SMTP concepts.

  • Strong understanding of WSUS, Nexus, Sophos, relating to endpoint security, system maintenance and patching.

Working Environment/Conditions:

  • Climate controlled office environment.
  • Work involves being able to concentrate on the matter at hand, under sometimes distracting work conditions and frequent employee and customer contacts and interruptions during the day. 
  • Work requires regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to agreed-upon schedule with willingness to work a flexible and/or rotating schedule and or extended hours, and assist at other locations or remotely, as needed.
Physical Demands/Effort: 
  • Work may involve the constant use of computer screens, reading of reports, and sitting throughout the day.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, multi-line telephone, photocopier, scanner, and facsimile which often requires dexterity of hands and fingers with repetitive wrist and hand motion.
  • Typically sitting at a desk or table; intermittently standing, stooping, bending at the waist, walking, climbing, kneeling or crouching to file materials. 
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs (files, boxes, etc.)
