Position Overview:

Heritage Bank currently has an exciting temporary assignment opportunity within our organization! 
 
Our Commercial Banking Tacoma, WA office is seeking a temporary commercial banking associate (May/June 2025 to August/September 2025) to provide administrative support to the commercial banking team while learning and gaining experience in a variety of client service and support activities within the division. 

The assignment is Part-Time and approximately 30 hours per week. Typical schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with flexibility to work extended hours during the assignment.

As a temporary employee, you will be eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan with company match, accrue sick time, and will have access to the Employee Assistance Program.  

Typical Duties and/or Learning Objectives:

  • Gain a foundational knowledge of commercial banking products, services, and operations.
  • Learn to analyze client financial information, assess creditworthiness, and identify potential risks.
  • Participate in loan structuring conversations, understand loan documentation, and complete monitoring activities.
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of the current state and future outlook of the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) market.
  • Learn to identify potential risks and challenges in the market.
  • Learn about regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Attend and observe meetings with commercial partners to learn about CRE lending, cash flow analysis, debt coverage ratio(s), sales and marketing tactics, work-flow volume & distribution.
  • Data entry and Input of basic information on Annual CRE Form – address, borrower name, account number, etc.
  • Assist with daily office work and provide support with administrative duties.
  • Complete all assigned training.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide an exceptional level of customer service.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, written and telephone etiquette business communication skills, with the ability to communicate issues over the phone, in person and via email, with the ability to read, write, speak and understand English well.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.  
  • Basic knowledge of accounting and finance theory and practices with an understanding of debit and credit relationships.  
  • Ability to gain working knowledge of policies and procedures and ensure job responsibilities are performed in compliance with all state and federal banking laws and regulations.
  • Ability to gain working knowledge of bank products and services. 
  • Unquestionable integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information required. 
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, proficient computer skills and ability to adapt to and learn new technologies quickly.

Working Environment/Conditions:

  • Climate controlled office environment.
  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions when assisting with property inspections.
  • Work involves being able to concentrate on the matter at hand, under sometimes distracting work conditions, and frequent employee and customer contacts and interruptions during the day. 
  • Work requires regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to agreed upon schedule, with willingness to work a flexible and/or rotating schedule and/or extended hours, as needed. 

Physical Demands/Effort:

  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, multi-line telephone, photocopier, scanner and facsimile which often requires dexterity of hands and fingers with repetitive wrist and hand motion.
  • Work may involve the constant use of computer screens, reading of reports; typically sitting at a desk or table; intermittently standing, stooping, bending at the waist, climbing, kneeling or crouching to file materials and/or conduct site/property inspections. 
  • Occasional lifting 10 lbs., files, boxes, etc.
