Heritage Bank has an exciting opportunity to join our organization! 

We are seeking a Commercial Banking Team Leader to join our Seattle Commercial team. This position is responsible for the overall financial performance and management of an assigned commercial banking team and market area, and is accountable for developing and implementing a business plan to grow the assigned market area's portfolio, while monitoring the portfolio to insure credit quality standards and procedures are met.

This position is fully on-site in Seattle, Washington. 

Base Salary Range:

$158,739.00 - $198,429.00 - $238,109.00 annual

The Role at a Glance:       

  • Establishes and services a sound loan portfolio by cultivating new and expanding existing business through an effective calling program. Regularly achieves and/or exceeds agreed upon benchmarks and annual goals.Participates in the strategic planning process ensuring the market is identified, penetrated and managed to achieve and/or exceed bank goals.
  • Develops annual business plan with Regional Manager to ensure maximum profitability and effectiveness.
  • Regularly meets with bankers to ensure that individual goals and objectives are set, monitored and met in support of the Bank’s strategic plan relating to market penetration and production.
  • Participates in coordinating the successful implementation of marketing and promotional programs within the assigned market area for new products and services. Maintains an awareness of competitive products, practices, rates and changes in the local market managed.
  • Fosters and maintains cohesive partnerships and working relationships with all lines of business within the Bank to build a trusted and productive sales and service referral process.
  • Prudently manages all expenses within or under budget.  Contributes to the overall profitability of the bank through cost controls, income generation and marketing efforts.
  • Develops and maintains a quality loan and deposit portfolio. Counsels clients on business plans and strategies. Increases outstanding loans and deposits and generate loan fee income consistent with annual goals.
  • Develops and maintains an ongoing prospect list; cold calling on prospective customers/clients. Assists assigned team to call on non-customers; negotiate transactions; cross sell the Bank's products and services; and obtain approval for new loan requests.
  • Analyzes and screens loan requests from team members. Prepares and presents for pre-flight, proper credit analysis on borrowing requests, recommending loan terms and conditions. Negotiates terms and conditions consistent with Bank policy, lending guidelines and Asset/Liability guidelines with Credit Administration.
  • Initiates and develops new business through outside business development activities. Achieves annual growth goals for loans, deposits and fees to ensure the bank meets its overall financial targets and conforms to credit terms
  • Ensures timely and thorough monitoring of all credits in individual portfolio, as well as assigned team members portfolio’s, through periodic reviews, continued analysis, proper credit quality grading, and proper documentation. Maintains ongoing contact with client to be kept current on significant changes in financial condition or operations. Remedies loan deficiencies when appropriate. Prepares and presents all required and requested loan reports in a timely manner.
  • Makes recommendations on financial and organizational structure and other matters; visits plant or company sites as required. Ensures the sale of additional financial services. Analyzes credit to determine the ability of customers and prospective customers to qualify for ensuing borrowing requirements.
  • Provides timely response to requests for extension of credit by approving loans within established lending limit or make recommendations on loans requiring higher approval authority
  • Monitors the performance of the borrower over the life of the loan. Able to recognize developing problems and bringing them to the attention of management. For troubled credits, assists in developing a strategy to return the credit to a pass rating or exit strategy.
  • Monitors past due reports to meet or exceed performance standards and make recommendations for changes to risk ratings, strategy of loans on administrative status, non-accrual status or charge-off. Ensures that quarterly reports are completed for loans on administrative status and assist in the work out of problem loans, as needed.
  • Complies with government regulations by maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of commercial law, UCC, and banking regulations/policy to assure conformity with required laws and terms.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and developments within banking and related industries; as well as economic and regulatory changes.
  • Represents the Bank at community functions and to community organizations in order to promote the Bank’s image and growth. Establishes a durable and productive network of referral sources and centers of influence outside the Bank.
  • Provides direct reports with proper tools and authority to execute their assigned functions. Develops skills of staff through goal-setting, coaching, problem resolution, delegation, training, counseling, and performance management.
  • Assists Regional Manager and works collaboratively with Human Resources to recommend staffing levels and approves personnel actions such as hiring, terminations, promotions, transfers, training and development of staff, timely performance reviews and salary increases, in accordance with legal and acceptable Bank personnel practices.

Core Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or relevant discipline - preferred. 
  • 8 years of recent and progressively responsible commercial banking experience providing financial expertise, counsel and customized solutions to business clients; advanced knowledge of business development, credit underwriting, loan structuring, credit and credit quality and commercial real estate and C&I lending practices, which includes a minimum of 2 – 3 years recent experience in a supervisory / leadership role successfully managing a team of bankers and support staff required.
  • Formal credit training and/or Pacific Coast Banking School Graduate or equivalent – highly desired. 
  • Equivalent combination of education, management experience, and training may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional customer service and maintain client relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Customer-centric mindset, with the ability to translate customer issues/needs into profitable business solutions.
  • Exceptional networking and relationship building skills, with demonstrated expertise and success in business development and sales processes and strategies.
  • A proven track record as an individual contributor who has grown top line results in a service oriented business.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills are required to manage, motivate, and develop teams, which may include oversight and management of multiple locations. Employee development, performance management, training and employee counseling skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize management and leadership best practices to plan, direct, schedule and review the work performance of assigned employees, by providing ongoing feedback and opportunities to learn, through formal and informal methods.
  • Inspires and fosters team commitment, pride, and trust. Facilitates cooperation and motivates team members to accomplish individual and group goals.

  • Thorough business and financial analysis and modeling skills, with understanding of financial accounting, income statements, balance sheets, etc., requiring the ability to gather, analyze and prepare reports related to commercial bank and assigned business units performance.
  • An ability to analyze and synthesize information accurately and effectively, multi-task and decide key priorities with confidence, motivation, decisiveness, flexibility, and sound business judgment.
  • Thoroughly understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to assigned area of oversight.
  • Ability to handle and deal with sensitive and confidential matters in an efficient manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize management and leadership best practices to plan, direct, schedule and review the work performance of assigned employees, by providing ongoing feedback and opportunities to learn, through formal and informal methods.

  • Proficient PC experience using MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and retrieval of data; working knowledge of automated financial systems, with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.

Work Environment/Conditions:   

  • Climate controlled office environment.  
  • Work involves being able to concentrate on the matter at hand, under sometimes distracting work conditions and frequent employee and/or customer contacts and interruptions during the day.
  • Work requires regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to agreed-upon schedule with willingness to work a flexible and/or rotating schedule and or extended hours, and assist at other locations or remotely, as needed.
  • May be exposed to outside climate conditions and/or required to wear protective devises during site and property visits/inspections.   

Physical Demands/Effort:   

  • Work may involve the constant use of computer screens, reading of reports, and sitting throughout the day.  
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, multi-line telephone, photocopier, scanner, facsimile, which often requires dexterity of hands and fingers with repetitive wrist and hand motion.  
  • Typically sitting at a desk or table; intermittently standing, stooping, bending at the waist, climbing, kneeling or crouching to file materials and/or site/property inspections.  
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 20 lbs. (files, boxes, etc.)

Travel Time: Varies – 50%; Willingness to travel to other branch, customer, business locations, and meeting sites, which may include overnight travel and extended stay availability when needed; valid driver’s license, clean driving record, proof of insurance, and access to reliable transportation; or the ability to access and utilize an alternative method of transportation, when needed, to carry out job-related essential functions.
