Staff Accountant

Puyallup, WA

The Staff Accountant provides general support to the Accounting/Finance division and assists in the efficient maintenance, reconciliation, processing and reporting of transactions in an accurate and timely manner, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Reconcile various general ledger accounts and acquisition related accounts, by identifying errors in posting or omissions by applying appropriate accounting standards.
  • Maintain prepaid and accrual posting to the general ledger. 
  • Post vouchers for department, as assigned.
  • Provide support researching and resolving account variances in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepare and assist with monthly account certifications, status reports, monthly closings and accounting and regulatory reporting schedules.
  • Track and process FDIC settlement transactions.
  • Prepare and submit weekly internal and external reports which include, but are not limited to, the FR2900 and Pricing reports.
  • Plan, organize and prioritize daily workload to meet multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Perform general administrative functions such as filing, supply ordering, responding to routine inquiries, researching requests from bank personnel and vendors, organizing data or records, preparing reports, while maintaining accurate and auditable records.
  • Maintain records, files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
  • Perform monthly fixed assets additions, disposals and reporting. Reconcile the suspense account.
  • Provide back-up support for other accounting functions and positions, as needed.

  • Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate outstanding/follow up issues over the phone, in person and via email to a variety of audiences; and the ability to read, write, speak and understand English well.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational, problem-solving, data review and time management skills; with the ability to manage multiple assignments, and reporting requests ensuring that priorities are set and commitments and deadlines are met.
  • Knowledge of general ledger functions, journal entry preparation, g/l and bank reconciliations and accounts payable processing.
  • Understanding of debit/credit relationships with proficient math skills to balance accounts and locate routine and non-routine mathematical errors. 
  • Ability to gain working knowledge and understanding of principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to assigned area, as well as the Bank’s policies, procedures, products, and services.
  • Unquestionable integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information required.
  • Working knowledge of office administration practices and procedures.
  • Ability to gain working knowledge and understanding of principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, rules and policies related to assigned area.
  • Unquestionable integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information required.
  • Proficient use and understanding of MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook), with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.


  • High school diploma – required. Associates degree in Accounting or Finance – required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance - preferred
  • 1 – 2 years’ recent general accounting experience – required.
  • Relevant working experience in the financial services industry – preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Work Environment:

  • Climate controlled office environment
  • Work involves being able to concentrate on the matter at hand, under sometimes distracting work conditions and frequent interruptions during the day.
  • Work requires regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to agreed-upon schedule(s) with willingness to work a flexible and/or rotating schedule, and/or extended hours, as needed.

Physical Demands:

  • Work may involve the constant use of computer screens, reading of reports, and sitting throughout the day.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, multi-line telephone, photocopier, scanner and facsimile which often requires dexterity of hands and fingers with repetitive wrist and hand motion.
  • Typically sitting at a desk or table; intermittently standing, stooping, bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials. 
  • Occasional lifting of files and/or boxes 5-10 lbs.
